Description

CABOPROST contains Carboprost, a synthetic analogue of prostaglandin F2α. It is used to stimulate strong uterine contractions. The injection is usually administered intramuscularly under medical supervision in a hospital setting.

Carboprost works by:

• Increasing uterine tone
• Causing uterine contractions
• Reducing postpartum bleeding

Indications (Uses)

CABOPROST (Carboprost 125 mcg/mL) is indicated for:

1.      Postpartum Hemorrhage (PPH)

o    Treatment of severe bleeding after childbirth due to uterine atony (when the uterus fails to contract properly).

o    Used when other methods (e.g., oxytocin) are ineffective.

2.      Second-Trimester Abortion

o    For medical termination of pregnancy in the second trimester.

3.      Management of Missed or Incomplete Abortion

o    To help expel retained products of conception.

Important Notes

• Must be administered by a trained healthcare professional.
• Not recommended in patients with asthma due to risk of bronchospasm.
• Common side effects: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, fever, chills, abdominal pain.
